Where an employer's assessment of First Aid needs, identifies that a First Aider (as defined in the Regulations) is not necessary, the minimum requirement of an employer is to appoint a person to take charge of first aid arrangements.

This course is designed to encompass emergency first aid training for Appointed Persons. It concentrates on the management of heart attacks and resuscitation, the unconscious casualty, choking, wounds, fits & basic legislation. The Appointed Persons certificate, valid for 3 years, is issued on completion.

Appointed Persons (AP) for Complementary Therapists- 8 hours

This course is designed to encompass emergency first aid training for Appointed Persons and includes the normal AP course (management of heart attacks and resuscitation, the unconscious casualty, choking, wounds, fits and burns).

In addition the course covers medical emergencies that therapists may be called upon to deal with. These include recognition and management of Angina Attacks, Fits and Seizures, Fainting, Anaphylactic Shock and Strokes. The legislation also concentrates more on malpractice and litigation rather than the employer / employee scenario. The Appointed Persons certificate (with additional modules) valid for 3 years, is issued on completion.

AP for Martial Arts & other Sports Instructors - duration 8 hours

This course is designed to encompass emergency first aid training for Appointed Persons and includes the normal AP course (management of heart attacks and resuscitation, the unconscious casualty, choking, wounds, fits and burns).

In addition the course covers medical emergencies that martial arts and other sports instructors may be called upon to deal with. These include recognition and management of Angina Attacks, Fractures & Spinal Injuries, Head Injuries, Fits and Seizures. The legislation also concentrates more on malpractice and litigation rather than the employer / employee scenario. The Appointed Persons certificate (with additional modules) valid for 3 years, is issued on completion.
